Let's first start with some criticism and sarcasm, earned or not. Key West Southernmost Wheat is not made in Key West (despite the picture of a barrel stating so, 90 miles to Cuba). It is actually brewed by Florida Beer Company in Melbourne, FL. Now I am no Mapquest or anything, but I am pretty sure Melbourne is pretty close to Orlando in Central Florida which makes my home 200 miles more Southernmost than this brewery with still 200 miles more to go from my house to Key West. I am pretty sure that there has to be someone else making a Wheat between there and Key West.
Technicalities aside, this beer is pretty damn good. You might say because you've been reading my stuff that I am partial to these Belgian style Wheat Ales. Well, maybe, but while this has some of the same spicy flavors, you can definitely taste the lime flavors in it, the ones they are bragging about on the label. They say Key Limes, but whatever, I can't taste that specific. Trivia: there was a battle not too long ago to make Key Limes the state fruit, but I can't remember really what happened if anything or even what the Florida state fruit was or is anyway. Or maybe this was just some BS topic that Paul and Young Ron were talking about on their morning show. Who knows? Anyone?
So great beer--light, refreshing, flavorful, not Southernmost.
Later.
