Porters' Pub

What is the only bar in Easton, PA open after 6pm on Christmas Eve? That would be Porters' Pub on Northampton Street. Well, at least that's the way it was in the mid-1990's.

When I lived in NY, I used to go down to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Easton on Christmas Eve to spend an extra night with part of my family. And when my aunt, my grandmother and my 3 cousins went to church, my uncle and I went to the bar. Now we never for 3 years in a row went right to Porters' Pub. That wasn't one of my uncle's watering holes. Instead, each year, we drove around to all his closed places only to end up at Porters' Pub.

And I really liked Porters' Pub. They have a great beer selection. They even have a club that earns you an engraved pewter mug to hang on the ceiling after you've tried so many of their beers. I have an account, so if you work there, tell me how I can see where I stand after 3 years.

I couldn't tell you one beer I had there. My uncle fell in love with Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome one year and bought every bottle they had (which I proceeded to help drink over the next 3 days). One year, a guy came in a little dirty and sat down next to me. He was a little shaggy in the hair, but so was I so I asked him how he was doing. Mistake. He said, "my brother and I got into a fight on our front lawn and my mom kicked me out of the house" so I moved stools. Told him Merry Christmas on the way out.

We never stayed til closing time. We had the after-church party at our good friend's house. More beer. Quoits (and not as Wikipedia calls in a lawn game) on the heated (inside) front porch on zero degree nights. Great memories.

Any of you ever been to Porters' Pub? It's THE place to go on Christmas Eve.
