From the makers of Guinness, one of my all time favorites, comes a big disappointment. That would be Smithwick's Irish Ale from E. Smithwick & Sons Ltd. at the brewery at St. Francis Abbey in Kilkenny, Ireland. (After all of that, I am very confused who and where and what brewer, etc.) Another Diageo brand.
Their website says this beer won five gold medals in the famous Monde Selection Beer Tasting Competition. Wow! I guess that is impressive. Was there another Varsity beer competition that day, because I'd like to taste the #2 and #3 beers from each of those years and add my two cents.
Anyway, not a bad beer. Some good flavors but the beer seems a bit flat. Maybe satisfying yet still boring. I guess there's a bit of nutty or toasted flavors and aroma, but this is a second tier beer at best.
Go for something better.
