It's Valentine's Day, and guess what? I think I'm in love!
Total Wine & More (this one's my branch) opened up one its superstores in Pembroke Pines a few months ago, and I've been itching to go. Today was the day. These dudes have over 1000 beers on the shelf from every crazy part of the universe, every style, for anyone. I walked around for the better part of an hour with my cart and didn't even pick anything up at that point.
There was an extremely helpful lady working there asking if I needed any help whatsoever finding anything. She asked me twice and she was not being pushy at all--I guess she could read it on my drooling face that I was gonna buy something.
The prices were very reasonable and even beat the local grocery stores for the standard every day beers. Since they don't sell food too, Publix may still have a regular customer, especially when they have some terrific beer sales, but I think Total Wine will have my weekend and stock up business from now on.
I grabbed their Buying Guide on the way out too, with all of their beers listed on like 8 pages in some small print. This magazine would have rivaled a major metropolitan phone book (do they still make those in print?) if they'd have made the font size any bigger.
On the way out, while I was paying, the extremely awesome cashier took the time to let me know there was one Belgian style beer they had there that he had tried 2 days ago, and that it was the best beer he ever had. He also told me there were only 3 left on the shelf and in the store. Great salesmanship and you could tell he loved his job. On the downside, I didn't understand the name of the beer he was recommending--something to do with his Spanish accent and the dude behind me not liking the chit-chat waiting to pay for his bottle of Merlot. But I wrote the senors name down and will ask him next weekend.
So, look forward to some beer drinking and writing later.
Later.
