Today's the day. The day when they take away a drinking hour, and I didn't even remember until I turned on the news this morning. So I got a late start. But luckily losing that hour was coupled with a day my wife and kids are going to a 6-year old birthday party that I was fortunate enough to not be invited to.
So, yeah, I still have to pay some bills, talk to my accountant, fight someone over at AT&T about my wireless bill, do some paperwork to get the kids signed up for next year's school year, and chat with some of my other social beer friends. I might get the chance to figure out who the hell these people are running for Miramar City Commissioner on Tuesday and even take a shower too. But a few things I will not be denied--a little bit of sports and a little bit of beer.
You know what? I really hate the New York Rangers. Years of being forced to watch them while living in New York plus their rivalry with my Flyers has made me an angry man. But it's tough to root for a winner of them versus the Bruins--so let's hope for a tie, which is still possible in professional hockey.
On my way home from work Friday, one of the beers I picked up at Total Wine was an Old Plowshare Stout Organic brewed by North Coast Brewing Co. in Fort Bragg, CA. Normally I steer away from anything that brags organic like this bottle did, but I wanted a change-up to some of the same breweries I've had recently.
This is a really nice beer. The aroma is all over coffee. It's not a heavy stout at all, but the flavors are great--coffee and milk chocolate, malty and creamy. There is a bit of a burn with alcohol but it's not overpowering and actually pretty nice. One last flavor I taste--aguardiente (learn Spanish). Yep I said it, aguardiente and its black licorice flavors, without that horrible licorice vodka-like aftertaste.
I'd drink it again in a heartbeat.
