Dogfish Head Aprihop

There was really bad news today for Phillies fans in particular, and sports fans in general. Harry Kalas died before the game with the Nationals. What a shame! He and his voice and personality are an extremely large part of the Phillies organization and have been for almost 40 years, and I am sad about today's news. For those of you who are part of the Non-Sporting Group (like Poodles), Harry supplied the narration for other commercials, like here is one for Campbell's Chunky Soup.

So this one's for you, Harry! Dogfish Head ApriHop brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales in Milton, Delaware, an IPA brewed with apricots. Fruity beer, huh? Well, I love them dried and I am game for anything.

Not surprisingly, the aroma is mostly apricots with a hint of flowers. The apricot flavor is very prominent as well. There are hops (and there should be for a beer being called an IPA), but they are begging to overcome the apricot flavors, and they never quite make it. There is more of a sour flavor. The 7% alcohol content does evolve and show up and it is blended decently with the apricots.

Basically, this reminds me of one of the specialty Goya nectars that they try to push in the very Latino community here in South Florida, except that it is carbonated and alcoholic. I think the creators must have gotten the recipe from a few local college students experimenting with whatever alcohol they had plus the rest of their roommate's juice. Isn't that how Snoop Dog got Gin and Juice? Not a favorite for sure.
