New DogTown Pale Ale

I've already been from Southwest Broward to the Port of Miami to Ft. Lauderdale International Airport to Weston and back home again this morning. My sister came back from her cruise, and we dropped a few of her friends off at the airport. Apparently they were running a little late on their expected 7 AM return time because they needed to make an emergency U-turn to take a kid who "fell" into an empty swimming pool to Mexico. He was seriously injured.

They weren't too late, but that lateness coupled with the normal customs stuff, and I had already received two strikes from the Port Police for either stopping, driving too slowly, looking for my sister, etc. Basically they didn't want me around until it was the exact time. Whatever! I bit my tongue for this old cop that kept addressing me "Señor".

This afternoon I'm drinking New DogTown Pale Ale brewed by Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, California. Around the edge of the label is the usual few-sentence story. This one goes, "This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in the West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas... it is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut..." Anyway, Lagunitas has always been solid with me, so I'm expecting a really good beer.

Holy Moly! This beer has a super hoppy and fragrant aroma. Wonderful tangerine and mango tropical smell with sweet honey. Super awesome aroma! The flavors start out with a bit of a kick from grapefruit and orange citrus. There is also a huge amount of pine flavors, like a whole forest's worth. Sticky and oily. There is a nice little bitter bite, but enough malty sweetness to keep a balance. Some alcohol and drying astringency are noticeable on the back side, and you will end with a dry finish. Refreshing, drinkable, OUTSTANDING! This beer kicks ass in every way. Holy shit! I want some more.

You had me at "super hoppy and frangrant aroma." I've loved the Lagunitas Hop Stoopid but I haven't tried this one yet-- definitely sounds like one I'd enjoy.

Oh my, Marie. The aroma was terrific and flavors almost as terrific. Crazy good!

And Hop Stoopid is the man!
