Bare Tree Barley Wine Style Weiss Beer 2009

Yesterday I promised a "green act" on 4/22 if reminded, but I think I might have done one today already! Each of my 4 indoor plants (at least I have four that I give a shit about) got exactly 12.7 ounces of water. You see, I was keeping the bottle I drank from tonight, but needed to rinse it out so the beer smell evidence was gone by the time wifey gets home. So I used the rinse to keep my indoor plants alive!

On an even more positive note, I wasn't sentenced to the "Root and Berry Retreat" as punishment for not being green. (If you have no clue what I am talking about, you have no children between the ages of  7 and 15 that watch iCarly on Nickelodeon. Carly is the Band Manager from "School of Rock" and is just as good in this television role. It is a cute show!

Today I'm drinking Bare Tree Barley Wine Style Weiss Beer 2009 brewed by Two Brothers Brewing Company in Warrenville, Illinois. "How the hell did you get your hands on that one, Beer Drinker?" Secret agents work for me! This beer comes in a tiny 12.7-ounce corked bottle. The bottle looks a little bigger than that, but the hole in the bottom is a little deceiving. Anyway, there is a tree on the label that looks electrified, and that art work was done by Allison Muller. "Within Every Bare Tree Lives The Promise Of New Life." Got it! Sounds like a line from the movie Avatar (my review), but it's actually a quote on the bottle. This Chicagoland brewery, run by Jason and Jim Ebel, specializes in rare and seldom-brewed beer styles. Cool!

Tiny cork pop. Wheat and a little apple and nectarine and fruity aroma, lightly sweet. Orange citrus with wheat flavors start things out on the sweet side. You will then move on to an escalated level of fruitiness, like peach and apple and mango. Honey sweet yet a bit of spicy clove enters the picture as this beer progresses. A little lacking on the carbonation side. There is a nice kick and burn from the alcohol as you near the end, warms you up! Damn! This beer is already gone? Smooth and tart and sweet and warming, lots of flavors all over the map, but I'll tell you that this was pretty interesting and I'd for sure try it if you can!

neat that we picked up some of the same elements...I had mine in the bathtub after my run yesterday.

My husband actually grew up in that area; he went to Wheaton-Warrenville South HS (coincidentally, where the Belushi brothers went to school).

"the more you knoooow!" *shooting star*

In general, I think that 2 brothers is highly under-appreciated and borderline ignored within craft beer.

I loved the Bare Tree. I had to use pliers to get the cork out last time I had it, but carbonation was decent in my bottle.

I had never even heard of this brewery until my buddy brought this back from Chicago for me. The resident beer geek at the Whole Foods there told him he needed to bring it back!

Why do you think this brewery is ignored? This was a pretty good beer.
