Negra Modelo

The Flyers won their Stanley Cup quarterfinal series last night against the Bruins. You've probably heard me yapping about it for weeks now. But how they won was spectacular. They lost the first three games in their best of seven series, then won the next three, already a major feat. But then last night they spotted the Bruins three goals in the first period, which, in case you haven't heard, is not the ideal game plan. I'm not going to give you a play-by-play, but the Flyers kept their heads in the game and ended up scoring the game winning fourth goal with just a couple of minutes left! Only the third time in NHL history a team came back from being down 3 to Love. Exciting!!!

This afternoon I'm drinking Negra Modelo brewed by Cerveceria Modelo, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico, D.F. Surely you've seen this beer in your grocery store before. It is very easy to find and decently priced. I bought a 12-pack today, so I decided to review one of the twelve. I've had this beer many, many times, but I am thinking the 8 billion I had in Cancun in the summer of 2007 might have been the last time. You know how that goes!

Malty aroma, with maybe a hint of nuts. Sweet and malty flavors to begin with followed by some toasted grains. There is a definite earthiness to this beer. A spicy kick rounds out the flavor profile. Very smooth, nicely carbonated, and the best Mexican beer that I've had. Flavorful and enjoyable. Try it, assuming you never have. I took two pictures and they were both blurry suck quality, so I am not going to publish them. Go to your store and open your eyes!

No doubt. The most interesting man in the world would dump Dos Equis for this beer!

If you're not familiar with the Chevela, try this. Freeze a giant goblet, salt the rim, pour in about 1/2 shot of tequila, sqeeze 1/2 lime, fill with 11/2 to 2 Negra Modelos. Pure nectar.

Hi Alexander. Oh, great. Now you're gonna make me go get some tequila! Sounds pretty good.

Oops, I spelled it wrong. It's Chavela. I googled it to check the spelling and the first few hits were for the taqueria in San Jose where I used to drink them. No wonder they were so f'ing good -- it sounds like that place makes the best around. The key is to make sure the goblet is really thick and really, really cold.
