Tonight I'm drinking Saranac Summer Brew brewed by Matt Brewing Company in Utica, New York. The label suggests they are taking a lesson from Europeans, who for over 100 years have combined lager with lemonade for a summer refreshment. The label depicts a bear with shades (which he needed with my flash photography, below) lounging in his Adirondack chair with a pint of this beverage.
Bright lemon with grainy lageresque aroma. Very tart lemon starts each and every sip. Some grain and corn and honey try to balance that lemon, but end up keeping this a little to much on the sweet side. After a few sips, the lemon jolt at the beginning starts to feel a little fake, like a lemon drop candy. Still, it was mostly refreshing. What can I say? Lemonadey and at 3.5% alcohol, a non-beer-drinker's dream.
