|Founders Red's Rye P.A.: Look at the Color!|
Now I would love to tell you a nice story or two or eight, and I have them in my head. But I had to choose between that and getting milk and bread for my family. Trust me, it was a close call! Oh, that and my four year old just told me he's gonna use the computer when I'm done. But watch out for some nice stories over the next few weeks or so. Then I'll be back to my old nasty self!
Tonight I'm drinking Red's Rye P.A. brewed by Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Yes, I knew you were going to ask, so a little patience please. I got this at Circle Liquors on the wet side of Ocean City, NJ, the island where my family was vacationing. If you don't know what that means, ask me. I really didn't know much about this beer except that Founders has a strong reputation and the few I've tried were great. I packed up three of these, well enough to make it through the rigors of checked baggage on Southwest Airlines.
Eye-catching label. The label art depicts a reddish-orange silver-haired dude, perhaps who the beer is named after. The label says this is "Hopped-up" with 70 IBU's.
Rye and spicy, peppery bread aroma, hoppy and interesting. Spicy black pepper flavors kick things off with plenty of rye and orange citrus flavors to go around the block a few times. Nice little bite there. Bready with just a hint of caramel. Orange rind flavors take over yet there is still a faint sweet component. Crisp and hoppy, very nicely balanced. Medium carbonation and body. Excellent flavors! Terrific beer! You finish with some spicy pepper left behind on your palate reminding you to get another six pack, if you can!
