Laughing Dog CSB

So happy it's Friday evening! Not sure a guy that works for me feels the same way. On my way home, I picked up my kids and stopped at Total Wine for a few beers. You should have seen the sheepish look I got when he walked out of the store at that time. I didn't need to say anything.

Tonight I'm drinking Laughing Dog CSB, an extra special bitter ale brewed by Laughing Dog Brewing in Ponderay, Idaho. On the front of the bottle, you'll see a mischievous looking dog looking up the bright red skirt of a lady with the caption "HOW DOGS SAY HELLO". On the side of the bottle is a story, pictured below, where you will find out that dog's name is Ben and he earned the Crotch Sniffing Bastard nickname for how he greeted people. A few more "sniffin'" jokes and that's it.

Malty sweet caramel aroma, with a touch of piny bitter beneath it. The flavors start out sweet with bread and caramel flavors. A bitter background it a second dominate aspect, very distinctly separated from the sweet. This bitter is not particularly nice. Rather, it provides stale lemon and off medicinal flavors. Sweet and bitter are not complementing each other at all. Also, despite a decent visual head, the beer tastes flat. Dry finish. Sorry, I'll pass.

The staff at Hop City suggested this beer yesterday but when he said "dominate bitter" I was all "um, no."
