Olde School Barleywine 2010

Tonight I busted out my Hennessy XO Cognac snifter to drink Olde School Barleywine 2010 brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware. Can't say I ever drank a beer from this thing before. So this beer shares a special glass that mostly only sees Grand Marnier (I have the Hennessy too, but it's seriously like drinking gasoline!) Nice label, with a little story about sharing or digging a hole and burying one for next year. I did buy a fourer and put two away in my closet. I had the 2009 version back in January, chronicled here. Bottled in 2010A.

Ripe fruit aroma, lots of apples and peaches, lightly sweet. Brown sugar, too. Smells Dangerous! Tons of brown sugar flavors right up front followed by a darting hoppy sting which is then overcome by smooth fruity sweetness. All in one second flat!

Booze for sure, all 15% of it. Bourbon with vanilla. Spice and sugar and candy. Warms you up the whole sipping time. A bit sweet, but very good, and even nicer slightly warmer. Low to medium carbonation and nice medium consistency. Smooth. One bottle? Yes, it is plenty for tonight. A must try and anther I'd suggest sharing, even the 12 ounce bottle.

Just tried this one at the brewery last week, and really enjoyed it; that 15% will kick you in the arse though! :)

Oh, yeah. One was plenty. But I really liked this beer. Glad you had a nice time there.

I had one of these at home last night and it was one of my favorite beers ever! It put to sleep really fast!

It really is a spectacular beer, both a little hot when fresh AND nice and mellow after a little time in the bottle.
