Clipper City Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Last time I drank this beer, almost two years ago, I was reminiscing about a time I was run off the road by the Colombian military! The fun label depicts a cartoon of a pirate and his bird pirate. I also like the purple colors, as they make the beer name stand out. Purchase before June, 2011.
Tropical, sweet pineapple aroma, yet with plenty of pine there too. Fragrant and welcoming. Citrusy orange and pineapple and floral flavors open things up. Less tropical than the aroma and also much less sweet. Good malty flavors but with great hoppy and pine answers. Medium carbonation and body are perfect. The finish is dry, sporting just a hint of the 7.25% alcohol. What you have here is a spectacular beer with wonderfully pleasant balanced bitterness. I love it and wish I had more. Well, I know next time what to buy at Total Wine! This could be a new favorite IPA, especially since Dogfish Head 60 Minute is rarely on the shelves anymore! But perhaps even without that advantage. Go find some of this beer now!
Dedicated to an online friend that's been harping about this beer for a few weeks now. I'm glad he helped me rediscover it!
