Heavy Seas Peg Leg Imperial Stout

Tonight I'm drinking Heavy Seas Peg Leg Imperial Stout brewed by Clipper City Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. I was just reading my review from two years ago and laughing. Got dumped by my cigar-smoking girlfriend because I was a know-it-all. Ah those days at the track! The label continues the pirate theme seen on the Heavy Seas series, this one with the pirate fishing with a line attached to his peg leg. Purchase before Nov '10. Uh oh. I bought this just a few weeks ago. Luckily, it's probably a beer that can deal with some extra months. That and I am not that big on rigorous drink by dates!

Wonderful chocolaty aroma with hints of vanilla and licorice. Rich chocolate flavors also start out the flavor profile, a bit sweet. Plenty of vanilla and what tastes like wood is also right there up front. Brown sugar, licorice and the tiniest nuances of orange citrus and smoke round out the flavor profile. Creamy and milky.

Solid carbonation, certainly not close to being a flat stout. The 8% alcohol is noticeable and warming, especially toward the end of the bottle. On the lightly sweet side the entire way, but with enough hops, alcohol and citrus to be just the right sweetness to be enjoyable. Very tasty beer and I will certainly drink it again! You should too! The End.
