Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York. I enjoyed a Hennepin with my coworkers yesterday afternoon, so when I saw this at Total Wine later in the day, I decided to grab it. The label has a very boring BPA surrounded by an orange oval on the front and the same Ommegana story on the side, I guess required by Big Brother Duvel. On the other side, a story that suggests "plenty of patience" is an important part of brewing this beer. It ends with a quote by Spinoza: "All things excellent are as difficult as they are rare." Packaged 3/25/11; Best Before 3/2012.
Huge, enormorific head. Same thing happened with the Hennepin. Jeez, these guys and Unibroue should start dating! Lemon-rind citrus and yeasty aroma. Crisp lemon flavor start, the whole rind. Strong hoppy bitterness complements the abundant yeasty texture. Some sweeter fruity orange comes next, offering balance, and then some spicy black pepper takes it away. Big carbonation, nicely aggressive. Refreshing. Excellent beer. Welcome 6.2% alcohol session beer!
