Bam Noire Dark Farmhouse Ale

Happy Father's Day. I've received my share of fatherly love and backtalk already today. And I'll spare you the details of the broken glass and diarrhea incidents. Guess it goes with the territory!

Today I'm drinking Bam Noire Dark Farmhouse Ale brewed by Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales in Dexter, Michigan. Looks like I drank this one back in November, 2009 too. I just got a bunch of new Jolly Pumpkin beers a few days ago from Total Wine, which totally reminded me that I had this one in the closet. And I've had it for a while, so I figured today was as good a day as any to crack it open.

The label art is great, depicting Bam Noire, the Jack Russell Terrier with bat wings and a glowing eye. Pretty freaky. "Dedicated to the dark side." This wine bottle has a sticker on the back that says Batch 340/341.

Caramel and prune aroma, sweet and then sour, interesting. Yeasty sour flavors kick things off. Tart apples and cherries really make the taste buds dance. Nice juicy quality, yet this beer is quite dry, all at once. Some funk lives in the background throughout as well. Good body with solid carbonation. I am getting a little cotton mouth right now, though. I definitely enjoyed this beer, and even more as I drank more and it started growing on me. It was really easy to finish the entire bottle alone. An enjoyable beer to check out for sure.

Had this stuff just before I got sick.

Was was more sour than I expected, although I realize I should expect that from Jolly Pumpkin. After getting over the sourness, I thought it was good.

I agree. It took a little getting used to. Luckily I had an entire wine bottle and no one to share it with.
