Rocket Dog Rye IPA

I've entered a few contests over the years to prove to myself just how funny I really am. Check out this recent haiku contest I entered to win a bottle of Dark Lord, along with the winning entries. I did get my poetry published on the post but was not a winner. Anyway, here is my entry. Clever, huh?

Then there was the recent call to action by Ithaca Coffee on Twitter to help them name their latest rooster, located at their Gateway store. They asked more than one time, so I assume that it was a legit contest. I'm not sure if a winner was crowned or not, but I offered two names. First, Ezra Cocknell and second, Roosty Griswold. If you need help determining why those are funny, please ask.

Since I'm talking about my awesome wit today, I figured I'd pair it with an appropriate brewery. Today I'm drinking Rocket Dog Rye IPA brewed by Laughing Dog Brewing in Ponderay, Idaho. The label depicts a cartoon-action-figure-type dog with rockets in his feet and paws, zooming around space. OG 1.062. IBUs 62. Alcohol 6.9%.

Rye bread aroma is very noticeable, with an orange citrus complement. There is a nice pine bite right in the beginning. And equal amount of rye coupled with a really nice spicy black pepper comes next. No mistaking the 6.9% alcohol as it's providing a little warmth and burn.

Bitterness is noticeable throughout, but some lovely sweet tropical fruity pineapple and orange smooth it right out. Great balance and flavors from start to finish. Carbonation is nice and prickly; body is medium and coats the mouth. Definitely a winner. All 22 ounces went down way too quickly. I'd check it out again and you should too!

Sounds like a winner. I'll look for it on my next trip to Total Wine.

I don't think I've ever had a rye beer *newbie*. Very funny rapture-haiku ;-)
