Shiner Holiday Cheer

This afternoon I'm drinking Shiner Holiday Cheer brewed by The Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. I reviewed this one last year, and it's apparently a very popular beer based on the amount of visitors that post had. I didn't need to curse or tell a funny story or anything! Anyway, I believe that the recipe is the same each year, that it's just their winter seasonal.

The label is cheery, with bright reds and greens on a white Christmas-tree ball background. The cap has a To:       From: Shiner on it to appear as a gift tag. And the neck label says, "HERE'S A BREW! JUST FOR YOU! A Bavarian-Style Dark Wheat. Enjoy the Gift of Holiday Cheer." On the back is a little story you can read for yourself below. Finally, they let you know this beer was brewed with peaches and pecans.

Sweet aroma with distinct peaches and a little bit of spice. Sweet peach flavors start the flavor profile. Fruity all around, apples too. Some caramel and spicy cinnamon, along with a faint nuttiness come next to complement the initial fruits. The sweetness from the beginning is balanced along the way by that spice and some light hops. Holiday Cheer is chewy and syrupy yet not to the point of being overdone. The high carbonation is prickly and aggressive, doing a nice job of breaking up the thick consistency.

Quite interesting and different. Malty and flavorful with fruity twists all along. I liked it and would check it out if I were you.

As a Texan, I want to like Shiner brews, but more often than not, I've been let down. I'll give this one a try based on your review. The pictures you take of the beers always look so good, kudos to you.

Hey dale. I usually like Shiner beers, though they never seem to be WOW. That's OK though. Solid brewery all around.

Thanks for the picture compliment. I think they are pretty good although I have a little reflection problem at times. Not a pro for sure!
