Sucks Holiday Ale Brown Shugga' Substitute

Today I'm drinking Sucks Holiday Ale Brown Shugga' Substitute brewed by Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, California. Basically, the brewery didn't plan well enough to brew their Brown Shugga' Ale this year and this is their apology beer. Even the mascot dog on the label says, "We Suck." The label has a Santa Claus cookie in the middle and nice colors. The story around the label goes like this... "This sad holiday season we didn't have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga' Ale. We're just out of capacity. There is nothing cool about screwing up this badly and we know it. O.G. 1.085 IBU 63.21 Alcohol 7.85%.

Holy sweet peach and orange Tang aroma. I had to check online to see what I was about to consume. Was thinking some Belgian-style beer but Beer Advocate says it's a Double IPA. Sweet tropical fruity flavors are all encompassing in the beginning too. Tangerines, peaches, mangoes--very juicy. Some spicy and hoppy pine and citrus balance comes next, adding just the right amount of bitterness.

The alcohol is noticeable, but just as it adds a little warmth and small bite to your tongue. As you drink a little, the bitterness grows on itself, though never to any overly aggressive level. Fruity and spicy aftertaste lingers for a while, very pleasant. Carbonation is great, body too. This beer has that characteristic Lagunitas flavor. Not sure what it is, perhaps the yeast? Anyway, magnificent beer. Absolutely terrific flavors. Grab one while you can.

looking forward to trying this one, did you buy it at Total Wine? I agree that most Lagunitas brews have signature taste, it's gotta be the yeast, yeah?

I like that they don't mind making fun of themselves. Beer companies are getting a little too serious.

I get the impression it would be a lot of fun working there.
