Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel

Today I'm drinking Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel, a Bavarian Dark Lager brewed by Brauerei Aying, Privatbrauerei Franz Inselkammer in Aying, Germany. I tried the Ayinger Bräu-Weiss a few days ago and enjoyed that so thought I'd go for this one as well. Similar simple farmhouse mini picture on the front of this 500mL bottle, too.

Rich caramel aroma, grain, sweet honey, very pleasant. Toasty, nutty, malty sweet flavors in the beginning. The body is, however, thinner than I had anticipated. Maple syrup flavors come next, but again, not even close to the having a consistency that even reminds me of it otherwise. Brown sugar, molasses and a little spiciness, similar to that when drinking a rye beer, round out the flavors.

A light hoppy balance is there to tone down the sweetness. Carbonation is a little flat despite the head you see on the beer from my pour. Not the greatest beer, but the flavors are good and this was enjoyable. I wouldn't kick her out of my bed, if you know what I mean.
