To celebrate the comeback and 10 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans, I decided to crack open a pounder can of New Orleans Lager & Ale (NOLA) Brewing's Mecha Imperial IPA. The can art is very crude and kind of dated, perhaps on purpose? It depicts a Godzilla-like monster on top of a building eating hops. There is a story that calls Mecha a "hop monster [which is] not for the faint of heart or palate." 8.8% alcohol.

Pretty weak pine and sourdough aroma. Doughy bready flavors in the beginning with some caramel sweetness. Then the beer turns on an ugly astringent bitter path. No citrus, no pine. Perhaps some faint fruity notes. Dry with alcohol at the finish. And the "off" lemony, not-so-nice finish was the closer. Needless to say, I didn't drink more than a few sample sips, each to a greater disappointment.
