Some hefty rain leading into Grovetoberfest 2015 left Coconut Grove's Peacock Park a muddy mess! Hell, I was coaching a little league baseball game that morning that had worse field conditions! BUT... the staff running the show threw enough sawdust and other "anti-mud-puddle" (including the trusty plywood) agents on the ground to make the park ready for action! Sure, a few of the unprepared wore white clothes and nice shoes, but the erudite festival-goers wore washable flip flops and their crappiest closet sneakers.
If you don't click here on my Grovetoberfest Beer Shirt exclusive, well you're missing out! My wife and I started out with the local brewery area: Cigar City, Funky Buddha, J. Wakefield, Miami Brewing, Saltwater, Wynwood, etc. LOVE the new beer scene in South Florida. But I also LOVE the breweries that give the beer geeks here something to be excited about over the past years: Founders, Lagunitas, Terrapin, also etc.
Wynwood had a great booth with a great presentation. And the dude at Saltwater was terrific -- everyone wanted to see what they were offering. Miami Brewing had a guy painting the beer list on an old shipping pallet, pretty cool. Traveler Beer had a Mustache See-Saw. And I'm pretty sure Hatuey had the loudest Cuban music at the entire place!
I bumped into some awesome beer people including Festival Director Tony, Eagle Brands Yamila, Brooklyn Brewery Rich, Green Flash Luis, Gold Coast Darren, and a few Quilmes and German beer hotties!
Man! What a cool event. Unfortunately, it didn't rain like hell at 6pm to entice some kind of mud wrestling, but one can dream for 2016! I was asked today what my favorite beer was from Grovetoberfest. Tough call, but I loved Founders Breakfast Stout, Coppertail Free Dive IPA and Funky Buddha Sweet Potato Casserole. I skipped many beers but those rocked the house!
I look forward to Grovetoberfest 2016 and 2017 and 2018, each with more hot chicks and a fun twist!
