Not only has Ballast Point Brewing done a bunch of special flavor treatments to their Sculpin IPA, but they've also recently released Watermelon Dorado, a new spin on their Double IPA. The label depicts two Dorado fish with a pink banner announcing this watermelon flavored version.10.0% alcohol.
Generically fruity aroma, subtle all around. Flavors have a much bigger impact though. Rich and fruity to start. Watermelon is obviously the star though not so dominant to just wash away all other flavors, rather more of an enhancer of the hoppy flavor profile. The fruity sweet start is easily matched by some bitter and spicy, piney and citrus hops. That bitterness even takes over by the finish.
The finish also shows quite a bit of alcohol flavor and kick despite all the other things going on. Big body. Big beer. I liked the watermelon, though I think Sculpin may be a better vehicle for it.
