Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Smoked Porter

Today I'm checking out Ommegang's Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Smoked Porter, a 2019 Limited Release beer. You all know how I feel about bourbon, and you all know how I feel about bourbon-barrel aging beer! [Takes another sip of Bulleit].

The barrel on my beer wasn't the only factor to consider. This was a $6 single bottle at the best retail price available. But everything Ommegang brews is GOLD, so there was not chance I wasn't going to give it a try. 8.9% alcohol (I believe the bottle, not the 9.5% from their website).

Awesome aroma, full of chocolate, caramel, tons of vanilla and an unmistakable bourbon sweetness. Similar flavors. You start with chocolate and cocoa and a huge dose of vanilla. Light roast.

Flavors show the bourbon character much more than the aroma. Spicy bourbon edge, some heat, but not overdone and an excellent complement to the beer's flavors. I don't really find any smoke but whatever. Excellent change-up for IPA Man (me)! Check it out!
