Anchor's Our Special Ale 2019 is the forty-fifth annual beer brewed to celebrate joy and the newness of life. The label on this year's Winter Warmer features Thuja plicata, a western arborvitae, this particular one an evergreen conifer native to Northern California. 6.9% alcohol.
Deep reddish brown color. Aroma features lots of pine and caramel with some licorice and dark fruits. Very hoppy, very piney, even minty. Caramel, some spiciness, and a little medicine-like, which I didn't love. Different, interesting, give it a shot.

Today I'm checking out Guinness Stock Ale Aged in Bulleit Bourbon Barrels. This beer is a blend of an imperial stout and a barleywine both aged in Bulleit barrels. Bottled in 11.2 oz packaging, so I felt a little short, especially considering they were packaged in Baltimore. 10% alcohol.
Terrific aroma full of vanilla, chocolate, raisins and even hints of blackberries. Excellent flavors! Big body! Silky and creamy texture! Rich chocolate with raisins come first. Sweet but with some alcy balance.
Light roast with a touch of vanilla. A little heat in the chest with the finish. Can definitely taste the bourbon character. Very flavorful beer! Check it out.

Over this past weekend, I had the opportunity to try JDub's Brewing's Cin-Duh-Rella Pumpkin Pie Sour. It paired well with the sweet defeat of OSU's wrestling team to Virginia Tech! My first pumpkin beer of the year, and it sounds pretty cool!
This bomber-sized sample was sent to me by the brewery. They told me they were pretty happy the way it turned out and wanted to spread the word. So check them out when in Sarasota, Florida as this particular beer is not bottled or canned. 7% alcohol.

Anyway, it has an aroma exactly like a pumpkin pie, big cinnamon, all-spice, pumpkin. Whoa! Lightly tart and sour to start but not overdone. And super creamy and silky texture. Full of flavors that work perfectly with that sour aspect too.
Pumpkin and cinnamon, pumpkin pie in a glass, with an acidic sour balance. A touch of alcohol also helps the flavors stand out! Super interesting beer. Definitely check this one out!
