Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale

So not a good start to the night. I cracked open this Celebration Ale from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.--terrible. What am I drinking? Gasoline? Yes, gasoline. This is the Hennessy of Beers--pretty wrapper but tastes horrible. If this were any more alcoholic tasting...

Seriously, I can't taste anything except extreme bitterness and alcohol (like the taste in your mouth the next day after an all night drinking binge).

So let's see. Is there anything to celebrate? Well, I only bought two of these in a mixed six pack, and I haven't opened the second one. I guess I'll save it for my next annoying house guest.

Update 11/15/2009: After reading some of your comments below, I promised to do another review of this beer. I fulfilled that promise today.

You've got to be kidding. Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale is one of the best beers out there. You must've had a bad bottle. I can't wait until the next season's batch is available so I can stock up on this wonderful hoppy ale.

Hey Mad Pollock. I did that review almost 8 months ago, so it's hard to remember anything but that it had a lot of alcohol flavor in it. I've gotta stick with what I wrote, but I promise to pick up another this year for a do-over. Thanks for the comment.

Have you seen BeerAdvocate's review? Have you seen the fan clubs? What IS your idea of a good tasting beer? Natty Lite? Sierra Nevada Celebration ranks in the top ten. That's with Sam Smith's Oatmeal, John Courage, Wolaver's Oatmeal, good old Bass and Guiness (from a tap)....
Try it again, Beer Drinker, and this time, have more than one.

Thanks for the comment, Anonymous. Look around and you'll see what I think are good beers. And as I mentioned above, when it's available again, I'll drink it again.

BTW, I don't base my opinion on what Beer Advocate says. And there are also fan clubs for everything, including Natty Lite!

Wow.
I don't know how appropriate it is to cite Beer Advocate as a means of trying to convince somebody that a beer good, but I agree that Celebration is one of the greatest beers out there. That said, I find it admirable that Beer Drinker actually published online, for all to see, that he (she? sorry I don't know) hates this stuff that so many people find to be so excellent. Think about it. A lesser person would have just pretended that they liked it and gone with the flow. . .

Well, right, the first time I drank this beer was 9 months ago, so I can hardly remember, except that the fumes started my car.

Seriously, in the car this morning, I was thinking how I can't wait for a repeat review of this beer.

If you have that strong alcohol taste, my guess is that you are drinking this too cold. Let it warm up a little.

Thanks, RPKI. I can't remember the details that far back, but makes sense. I've since re-evaluated and reviewed this beer again, and this time really enjoyed it.
