Budweiser Select 55

This morning I'm drinking Budweiser Select 55 brewed by Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis, Missouri. I'm not sure why, but for some reason there are people that think I would never review this beer. Didn't they learn their lesson just one week ago as I reviewed Publix Spring Water? If anyone should have known better, it's Total Wine's Ed Roberts who threw down the final challenge! His store sells it, so I guess he just wanted to know what to tell the consumers browsing that aisle. Well, here you go, Ed. Oh, and to that dude that commented a few months ago that I never review a macro, I hope you're still reading!

So I bought this yesterday during my weekly grocery trip to Publix. What? $5.49 per six pack? That's the same price as Yuengling. I guess it must be good! My beer was born on 07APR10. Since the clear motivation for Budweiser to make this beer is its light beer status, let me enlighten you about its nutritional value, found on the back of the bottle. Per 12 oz: Calories 55; Carbohydrates 1.9g; Protein less than1g; Fat 0.0g; Alcohol not more than 3.2% by weight/4% by volume. The beer even has its own website. Now that is Punk Rock!

I think now is the perfect timing to drink this. I am sweating from my photo shoot of the beer, which I staged with some manly tools and hurricane shutters and giant garbage cans. And yes, it is 92 degrees here with 95% humidity and it's not even noon yet! Twist-off cap. Didn't bother with a glass, but I don't see that as unfair. I actually prefer many beers like that. Light lemon aroma, that's about it. The beer has that same lemon flavor and plenty of grain and corn flavors, too. Definitely a sweeter beer than I was expecting. The flavors, however, despite being noticeable, are very thin and watery. Considering the thin nature of the beer, the medium to upper-level carbonation provides a major dimension in this beer's profile. The tingly sensation is highly positive and refreshing.

Look. Bud did exactly what they wanted to do. They made a light beer with low calories that has some flavors and is refreshing and thirst quenching. Yes, it is thin, even before noon. But if it's all about drinkability, then this is a winner! There are a zillion beers that have more depth and flavor and... Ask if you'd like a recommendation. But this beer has its place and will always have a consumer!

Excellent review. This is why I like your site so much. Honest. Reviewed the way it should be - in context. No, you can't even think about lining a macro like this up against craft beer. But you can take it for what it is.

This post gets the non-beer-douche-of-the-year award.

Thanks, Lost. I have no problem drinking and reviewing any beer. Or anything, actually.

I really appreciate the compliments and am raising the last 55 from the sixer in your honor right now! For that... go Celtics! I hope you like them as much as the Bruins.

Agree with Lost, this is a great review.

"But this beer has its place and will always have a consumer!"

Well put. It goes along with something I say a lot- "There is a beer for every occasion and an occasion for every beer."

Of course I think there are a zillion better beers but if I said I would never buy a BMC beer again I'd be flat out lying. Nice job.

Thanks, Billy.

I'll probably have something a little tastier tonight. Talk to you later.

Goes Great with a fresh slice of lime or lemon!! There is only about 10 calories in a lime & about 25 in a lemon, still low cal. This beer is great for anyone looking for a super light beer with a fresh, crisp taste. Downside if you are someone who wants to get really wasted you might have to drink more than normal. PERFECT for the social drinker! AS with all beer & alcohol, remember to stay hydrated & also replace electrolytes before bed & or in the morning.
