Rich malty aroma, chocolate and licorice, with a hoppy coating. Smokey chocolate start. Combine that with a roasted malt and hoppy citrus flavors and you have quite a busy beginning. Next, some sharp aromatics and spicy juniper flavors jump out of the glass and onto ever part of your mouth. Acidic and bitter all in one. So far, pretty smooth for all the action.
The 8.0% alcohol comes on pretty strong next, offering some burn in the chest, and I'm not ruling out heartburn later. The ending is quite bitter, with some astringent citrus lemon zest. Carbonation is big making all the flavors stand out even more. A bit strange all around with flavors everywhere, not complementing one another very well. Not bad but so far my least favorite of the Beer Camp bunch. I will drink the other two bottles but will not look for this again.
